Often in the middle of supper we pause to step outside and watch the sunset.

Seasonal wildflowers, mushrooms, and picking wild blueberries are annual favorites. Our most frequent visitors are chipmunks, red squirrels, chickadees and purple finches, but we've also spotted eagles, porcupines, and foxes. Our neighbor Loren sometimes sees moose swimming ashore from Whaleboat Island.

Who would believe that in addition to playful whales, Loren recently met a six-and-a-half foot sea turtle? We usually see tiny crabs and snails, herons, loons, cormorants, and an occasional seal. There's also a puzzling array of seaweed and shells, and a sheared rock cove where water trickles after a good rain.
